Products "Charlie's Soap" Mazda RX-7 featured SuperFlex
in it’s studded tires for racing. The idea came about as
a way to fill a need.
Traditionally, studded tires have
been a problem for ice racers. They leak like a sieve, and
if too much air leaks out during a 10-lap race they will rip
the sidewall of the tire. The racers install 140 to 180 metal
studs per tire. This means you have at least 140 to 180 chances
of developing a leak. The studs are 1-1/4 inch long and protrude
completely through the tire with a flat washer and nylock nut
attached on the inside. Even if you are lucky enough to get
the tires to hold air with a conventional sealer, there is
the contact factor that no sealer will help. If two cars come
into contact with each other, which is quite often, and one
car's front wheels are turned, the studs tear the sidewall
of the other car's tires to shreds. Either way the end result
is a destroyed tire. " The average cost of building a
studded tire is about $200.00 plus 4 hours labor. With SuperFlex
