Traditionally, studded tires have been a problem for ice racers. They leak like a sieve, and if too much air leaks out during a 10-lap race they will rip the sidewall of the tire. The racers install 140 to 180 metal studs per tire. This means you have at least 140 to 180 chances of developing a leak. The studs are 1-1/4 inch long and protrude completely through the tire with a flat washer and nylock nut attached on the inside. Even if you are lucky enough to get the tires to hold air with a conventional sealer, there is the contact factor that no sealer will help. If two cars come into contact with each other, which is quite often, and one car's front wheels are turned, the studs tear the sidewall of the other car's tires to shreds. Either way the end result is a destroyed tire. " The average cost of building a studded tire is about $200.00 plus 4 hours labor. With SuperFlex in the tires, it is a win-win situation. First, there is no air to leak out. If there is contact ....more>
