Arnco eliminate flats for the 184th ‘Flying Jayhawks’

Aircrafts in need of flatproofed air force bombers

Arnco was recently asked by KANG to address an urgent need to eliminate flat tire conditions in its fleet of static aircraft by filling tires mounted on air force bombers displayed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas.

Because the filling operation had to take place onsite in the airpark, Arnco engineers and the KANG team had to design a special Arnco Mobile Application Field Service (MAFS) system that could reach up to 75 feet from the nearest secondary access road. The 184th KANG team also had to work throughout the night in transporting the MAFS to aircraft locations supporting the tire flatproofing process because weather radar had predicted an oncoming Kansas torrential rainstorm within 24 hours.

Arnco flatproofing technology is being used throughout the world on United States military wheeled equipment since it eliminates flat tires and resulting downtime in the most hazardous operating environments. It can withstand up to .50 caliber ballistic rifle shots, is puncture resistant from shrapnel and battle debris, and prevents catastrophic tire blowouts.

According to Joe Campo, Arnco’s Director of Military Applications, the company’s no-flat tire technology is supporting DOD initiatives focused on improving safety and survivability.

He points out that Arnco research and development engineers have developed proprietary flatproofing polymers for a wide range of military ground support equipment -- from deicers and aircraft loaders and trainers to maintenance cranes, munitions carts, skid steers and tow tractors. There also is a growing demand for flatproofing in many other military applications as well, and various formulations of Arnco flatproofing are being used on armored vehicles, mission specific HMMWV’s, mine clearance and construction equipment, etc.
